I got the idea to start this as a way to stave off boredom, make myself feel a little better about watching so much TV/movies and as a fun re-introduction back into synthesizing philosophical ideas into cohesive criticism.

As a Master’s student, I did this with French literature and loved it. Once completing the Master’s, I decided to take some time off  from academia and enter the working world, where I have been for too long. Eventually I’d love to return to get my PhD in comparative lit, but it’s been far too long since I’ve had to work those critical muscles. So here we are.

Instead of literature – well for now at least – I’ll be using this space to critique pop culture film and tv shows. For now, I’ll focus on my two favorite shows at the moment:

         

What I’ll do is put up a summary of each episode, and then a day or two later have a critique. Sounds simple, but I bet I’ll have a tough time dusting off those mental cobwebs.

I’ll try not to be too simple with the critiques. And just to give a bit or forewarning, I tend to lean toward such critique styles as formalism, deconstructionism, feminist and marxist. I also have a deep interest in esoterica and topics about consciousness,  so I’m sure there will be a fair amount of mythological, alchemical and magical inferences as well.
